Spent the weekend llama trekking. This involved being acutely aware of the feelings we projected toward Marshall, our llama. Llamas are extremely sensitive animals. Marshall continually observed our behaviour and listened to our voices. If he had noted anything threatening or incongruous, we were told he would become obstructive and difficult. Suzi and I had to focus really hard to convince Marshall we were being truthful and honest in our friendship with him. We also had to be firm too so he would follow our commands and enable all of us to have an enjoyable relaxing hike.
We had a great time. Marshall quickly warmed to us and even took to petting Suzi. What a charmer!
As we returned home, I wondered if we are always aware of how our actions and words are perceived by colleagues and peers. Are there times we have projected hostility, disbelief or hopelessness out when what was needed was support, faith and reassurance.
I know that I will consider more intently how I come across to others. Thanks Marshall.
