Food for thought

Wow, the weekend has flown by. I took the opportunity to immerse myself into the world my two children occupy, this turned out to be quite a sureal place full of fun (and dragons, dinosaurs, princesses, racing cars and superheros).

Church was packed this week, over 250 people! After bouncing to a few rock numbers came the talk based on John Chapter 6:5 and a  story we all know.  Simply, it tells of a time when Jesus was addressing a crowd and wanted to feed the thousands who had listened. After a conflab with his disciples about how, he took the bread and fish from a small boy and distributed it around, satisfying all the people and still leaving 12 baskets of food.

Unpicking the story, there is much to learn and apply in our lives to break the deadlock caused by those hidden chains around us.

Firstly, do not be constrained by your way of thinking like Philip was.  Andrew showed real possibility thinking open to suggestions and creativity.
Secondly, the answer does not always lie within the people you generally hang about with. The disciples in this story did not have the resources needed.
Thirdly, sometimes the most unlikely candidate can offer you a breakthrough.  Forth, always show thanks for what you have and the possibilities will spring up.
Fifth, life is a test.  How do you prove your worth when you are lost in a 'wilderness' / under stress, confronted by authority, asked to do menial things or told things about yourself you do not want to hear? Do you take offence and leave or muck in?
Sixth, rewards are for us all.  Jesus gave the treat of a snack because he wanted to and it was a nice thing to do, not because there was a pressing need..
Finally, do not waste precious resources.

Food for thought.
