Being the best we can be

Lets be honest, we can all improve. I can. I have many warts, foibles, annoying habits. Traits that I do not really like. Sometimes I feel as if my dreams are further than the nearest star. That's a long way away. I look around and I see many folks'  dreams drift further and further away as they let themselves stagnate. A lake needs a source of fresh water flowing into, through and out of it to support life within it. We are the same. It is easy to fall into the trap of believing that this is it, you cannot improve. Those great things you see happening around you to others or read about or hear about, you feel like you just don't deserve it.

WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. We are all blessed. We all have amazing potential. You do, those around you do.  Open yourself to new horizons. Throw open the doors and shutters, let the light in. As you sit reading this. Think. What are you not doing now that is stopping you being the person you want to be. You can, can't you.

To improve we also need to do listen to the RIGHT people. Put aside those unsuitable, immoral suggestions you are given. "Just get ride of her / him, that's what I would do". "Its OK we all clock in and out like that, no one notices". "Of course you can take those, we work here don't we". I know I have heard comments like that. What seems the easy path is presented. How easy it is to follow. Following will lead to Chaos, internally and in the world we live, at some point. Be clear the type of person from whom you take guidance.

Other people will have their scams, their short cuts, their bit on the side. Step away. These people may be those we hang with. Maybe it is time to change. This behaviour results in one thing, small thinking.

Small thinking is when someone has done so many wrong things, they have to focus so hard on every moment around them just to feel safe and get by. Thoughts are sucked into them rather than expanding out into possibilities to develop and help them attain their dreams. I have been there. There was a point in my life when I was bending the rules, profiting from other people.  To stay 'one step ahead' I had drawn up the draw bridge to myself and my mind.  It was like a dam stopping the water of life running through me. I knew I had potential to be better than this.

Small thinking won't make you better. It won't get you your dreams. I took a bold move and pushed the dams aside. That is history, gone. My future became bright once more.

How often have you said to someone. "Well done", "Wow! You look great", "You really deserve that result, you worked hard". In the places of work, especially in the UK it is common to here people saying; "They only got that by brown-nosing", "Who do they think they are!", "I bet that is all on credit".  Mocking people is easy. Siding with these comments, even in private is too. To develop as people, we should realise that everyone sets out with the best intentions and is working to the best they can with the resources they have.  If your colleagues succeed, congratulate and learn from them. You can succeed too. If others struggle, help them, what resources can you give. You efforts will come back to help you when you need a break through. As a community, surely we should be for everyone. Motivating each other to better things. Just typing this is putting a smile on my face. That looks like a world I want to live in.

To really develop. We need to commit. Plant ourselves somewhere. Where that is, you know. I do. I am living in it. My house. My rock. Here my dreams will germinate. A strong decision to commit suddenly makes a whole bunch of worries, decisions and stress just, vanish. What will you commit to and plant your self in?

When we plant ourselves, commit, support the community we are in, think with big thoughts doing right, we will flourish and our efforts will bear fruit. As for those who don't? Well you will know those that blow from one thing to another, flit here flit there like a butterfly. They don't develop, move on. Their lives become thin and transparent. They think small.

THINKING BIG and developing is a choice. What changes will you make now, that will blow away the shackles you decided to put on yourself. Go on. Make those changes and be who you really want to be.

Thanks to Rich.
