I have been struggling this week. At times I have lost confidence and at others I lost my motivation.
What was going on? How was I letting this happen?
The devil at work here has been inactivity. There are times when I let opportunities go, failed to act proactively and times when I failed to switch on the brain.
The result was confusion. I also recognized the start of a self reinforcing slippery slope.
During inaction, the negative self talk starts. The reasons not to do something appear and behaviour can start to avoid situations where growth will happen. Our bodies also se energize. Recharging again can seem impossible.
A bunch of people pulled me out of this situation and forced me to be active in body and mind. Paul wanted me to join him in a meeting some work I had been helped him with, Sue called up wanting to review workshop plans, Andy needed to know if a project had been invalidated.
Suddenly, I had a bunch of goals that needed focused thinking and fast action. And whilst in the midst of a maelstrom of activity, I was smiling, enjoying myself and confident. The tired, lethargic feeling was no more. I was ON FIRE again.
Firstly, I am thankful for the situations arising that activated me again. There is also a message not only around setting goals but also about going beyond the call of duty. Doing above and beyond because these occasions might just be the ones that prevent dangerous inactivity and open up real possibilities.
